Gordon earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Washington University, a Masters of Education at University of Portland and a Graduate Certificate in Bible at Multnomah University. He has taught students in upper elementary through college graduates.

Carrie earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Oregon State University, and a Graduate Certificate in Bible at Multnomah University. She taught grades 3-12 in public and private schools prior to homeschooling.

In 1993, Salmon Creek Learning Center opened and they began teaching other children as well as her own. At the request of many, they developed The Homeschooling Seminar course in 1994 and in 2008 began the Planning for High School and Beyond seminar.
